For the second time in three weeks, broker-posted spot rates in the Truckstop.com system for dry van and refrigerated equipment moved in oppositive directions during the week ended August 22 (week 33). Dry van spot rates declined to their lowest level in 15 weeks. Refrigerated spot rates rose for a fourth straight week to their highest level in seven weeks. Flatbed spot rates declined for a seventh straight week, although the cumulative decrease in the past four weeks is barely more than a penny.

Broker-posted spot rates in the Truckstop.com system for both dry van and refrigerated equipment posted their strongest increases in six weeks during the week ended August 15 (week 32). Refrigerated spot rates rose for a third straight week for the first time this year. Dry van spot rates recovered more than the prior week’s decrease. Flatbed spot rates barely moved but technically declined for a sixth straight week for the first time since last August. Spot rates largely moved seasonally.

Refrigerated spot rates posted a modest increase for a second straight week while dry van rates declined after rising for the first time in four weeks during the previous week. Flatbed spot rates declined marginally. Spot rates continue to move largely according to seasonal expectations.

Flatbed spot rates declined for the fourth straight week, but the decrease in the latest week was marginal. The moves for all three equipment types were in line with seasonal expectations for the beginning of August as van rates tend to stabilize while flatbed rates continue to fade.
